Look, a mess (AWP p.461)

Let me forget everything
Not know anything of today
or yesterday
or ever since I couldn't recognize myself
Let me go lie on a cool beach at night
in an old, worn-out sweatshirt
and just breathe in the air
Let me just run barefoot down the beach
with cool night rain coming softly down
and just be in that moment
and not think about what there is to do
or who there is to deal with
Take me back to the days
of superman costumes and fake gowns
where a laugh would last the whole day
Let me run in an empty theatre at midnight
Let me tune out every grain of dirt that buried me
Let me just forget
everything
How you need proof for it to be true
A mockery of faith
No
No, this cannot work
Slam my face back into the book and scream
silently, of course
Let me take every impact without stir
No changing it, can never change it
Who's going to know?
